The USD just dumped across all major pairs after the recent support in the USDJPY at 76.65 was just broken, leading to a huge plunge first in the Dollar-Yen, to a fresh post WW2 lowm and then in all other pairs. It is unclear what is driving this: probably some combination of QE3 expectations and technical trading now that the bottom has been taken out. The signal is irrelevant: it all originates at the central banks these days anyway. Expect imminent chatter of BOJ intervention to protect its exporters.

As a reminder, the IMF expansion myth was one of the latest rumors floated today by none other than the tag team of Geithner and Liesman. It lasted less than24 hours but it served its purpose.

The second priority is to get the world's solvent countries' future so deeply intertwined with that of the bankrupt ones, that letting Greece, and hence France, would result in a Global Assured Destruction.

FT informs us that according to Greece itself any haircuts over 21% are out of the question: The lead negotiator for private holders of Greek debt has said that investors are unwilling to accept greater losses on their bonds than the 21 per cent agreed in July, jeopardising eurozone plans to finalise a second Greek bail-out by the end of next week.   Charles Dallara, managing director of the Institute of International Finance, criticised European leaders on Friday for failing to allow the July deal to proceed. He said any greater losses imposed on Greek bondholders could prompt investors to sell the sovereign debt of other eurozone countries, destabilising the single currency.   “We do not see that a compelling case has been made to reopen the deal,” Mr Dallara told the FT. “A deal is a deal.”

The meditation has five sections and is done to especially composed music by the New Age composer Deuter as conceived by Osho. During the first part, of ten minutes duration, you breathe rapidly, chaotically and deeply through the nose. This is supposed to build up the energy that can help you release the flame of pent-up repressions. Then, at the sound of a gong, the music changes into waves of sonic wildness. For the second ten minutes you are to undergo catharsis, release emotions, anger, gibberish, fear, rage, madness — whatever comes up. You are to dance it, shake it, scream it, sing it, but you are absolutely not allowed to hurt others in the hall. The third gong brings on a ten-minute hop of heaven-hell. You stop releasing emotions [or stop undergoing catharsis] and reach your arms straight over your head and jump to the pulsing synthesizers and drums. Every time your feet hit the ground you yell Hoo! with all you’ve got, as if it meant life or death. This is a variation of a Sufi technique designed to bring your energies up out of your sex center and take them through the rest of your body. At the last hop and Hoo! the pre-recorded voice of Osho yelling Stop! cuts the music like splitting a thunderbolt. You then freeze in place like a statue for fifteen minutes and watch within. Finally, there is fifteen minutes of dancing and celebrating.

For a long time, my stand-up material has drawn from three sources. The first is the English language: words, phrases, sayings, and the way we speak. The second source, as with most comedians, has been what I think of as the "little world," those things we all experience every day: driving, food, pets, relationships, and idle thoughts. The third area is what I call the"big world": war, politics, race, death, and social issues. Without having actually measured, I would say this book reflects the balance very closely. The first two areas will speak for themselves, but concerning the "big world," let me say a few things. I'm happy to tell you there is very little in this world that I believe in. Listening to the comedians who comment on political, social, and cultural issues, I notice most of their material reflects an underlying belief that somehow things were better once and that with just a little effort we could set them right again. They're looking for solutions, and rooting for particular results, and I think that necessarily limits the tone and substance of what they say. They're talented and funny people, but they're nothing more than cheerleaders attached to a specific, wished-for outcome. I don't feel so confined. I frankly don't give a fuck how it all turns out in this country - or anywhere else, for that matter. I think the human game was up a long time ago (when the high priests and traders took over), and now we're just playing out the string. And that is, of course, precisely what I find so amusing: the slow circling of the drain by a once promising species, and the sappy, ever-more-desperate belief in this country that there is actually some sort of "American Dream," which has merely been misplaced. My interest in "issues" is merely to point out how badly we're doing, not to suggest a way we might do better. Don't confuse me with those who cling to hope. I enjoy describing how things are, I have no interest in how they "ought to be." And I certainly have no interest in fixing them. I sincerely believe that if you think there's a solution, you're part of the problem. My motto: Fuck Hope! P.S. exit path 4 is the only real option. the rest are already in play: enough regional wars = ww3 enough local disease and famine = pandemic enough urban violence due to commodities shortages = “race” (class) wars the only question left to ask is the following. sure, we have reason to act. and we have a spirit of action, if not an action plan. but, to create such an action plan, we require more than a reason to move, and a movement in mind, we need a place to move to, a shape of the world that we wish to see realized rather than the one in which we live, now. and this, as yet, is still missing. i propose a medium by way of which these eventual ends to revolutionary action can be visualized. a medium rooted in natural energetics, necessarily delivering portraits of more or less sustainable institutional arrangements. a medium that show not only the ends of revolution, a new new world order, but the transition states that must be realized along the way. a medium that is intuitive, stick-and-ball simple, and yet as powerful as plato - it is not only the world in which we live, it is the stories that prop up the pillars of this world, that point us to right and wrong, good and evil. this was plato’s essential project, for all of the misinterpretations otherwise (i have yet to find a scholar in recent history who properly grasps plato’s intentions behind the ‘republic,’ for example), and it remains the most important philosophical project imaginable. in fact, i blame the condition of the world on the anemia of modern philosophy. philosophers have dropped the ball, and indeed there are few whom i would call “Philosophers” at all, and i have met many of them, read most of the rest, and condemn the majority as sophists pure and simple. these pissants have left Philosophy to the dead, to the Martin Luther Kings and the Christs and the Socrateses before that. not a one has the courage to practice this art, and without this courage, there is essentially no capacity. thus, practical wisdom, that virtue that Aristotle perhaps best recognized as necessary to sew the end sof the political world together in one unified and coordinated movement, in the best interests of all, is the rarest of commodities. and, it is for this lack of wisdom that communities will tear themselves apart. thus, to start, i encourage all to stop. think. feel your way from your own position to those of others. realize the difference. and build this bank of conscientious experience, so that, when the time comes, you can appeal to those whose ends seem at cross purposes to your own, and find a common horizon. it is on this common horizon that option number 4, so aptly given above, will show itself. Like everybody, I have no idea when the next market crash will occur, but I do happen to hold the view that a market crash is on the way. In fact, my view is that the entire future from here onward will be marked by sharp plunges (both crashes and regular market declines), followed by periods of stability, if not apparent recovery.

What I track instead are imbalances and risks. Sort of like being a fire marshal who takes note of an outlet with fifteen things plugged into it, some with frayed cords, located near a pile of old cleaning rags. I can't tell you for sure that a fire will result, only that the odds are elevated. A prudent person will take steps to remedy the situation or at least prepare for the possibility of a fire.

"If they cannot address this [the sovereign debt crisis in Europe] in a credible way, I believe within perhaps two to three weeks, we will have a meltdown in sovereign debt which will produce a meltdown across the European banking system.  We're not just talking about a relatively small Belgian bank, we're talking about the largest banks in the world. The largest banks in Germany, the largest banks in France that will spread to the UK in part through the sovereign debt problems in Ireland.  It will spread everywhere because the global financial system is so interconnected, all those banks are counterparties to every significant bank in the US and in Britain, and in Japan and around the world. This would be a crisis, in my view, more serious than the crisis in 2008." The stakes could not be higher. Normally staid politicians are letting their guard down and saying previously unthinkable things.

Anybody care to guess whether the amount that they decided to guarantee will be ultimately sufficient to cover the actual amount of the total potential losses? My guess is that over time the number will prove to be far, far below the final and true cost.

With the triggering of a default, the fear of contagion will spread, because, frankly, nobody really knows where the time bombs are located in the credit default swap (CDS derivative) markets.

The bottom line here is that the European situation is quite far from resolved, and as we've been saying all along, it really can't until large losses are taken by someone.

The key point to understand about our economy is that it is anything but straightforward and linear. It is a complex system, meaning that it has two characteristics of which we should be aware: It requires energy to maintain and/or increase its complexity, and it is unpredictable.  One typical feature of complex systems is that they tend to jump rather abruptly from one state to the next. Where they can exist in some sort of seeming equilibrium for quite a while, a sufficient exogenous shock (or a change in conditions, such as becoming energy-starved) can often cause them to transition rather suddenly to the next point of 'equilibrium'. Said more simply, systems often have tipping points

That's why it's best to be pre-positioned in your financial, physical, and emotional preparations, so that when the next bout of extreme volatility exerts itself, little to no immediate action is needed on your part during the tumult
